WaterWell Educational Videos

March 11, 2009

I have had a lot of comments about our “WaterWell” project which has aimed to produce a feasible and practical wireless sensor network for monitoring water quality. You can read more about the WaterWell project.

In this post, I would like to share some videos with you where we introduce the hardware we have used and how we have built the system. So that you can visualize our findings:

Introduction of the hardwares that we have used in our project.

How to connect the SunSPOT to Sensors with the Serial converter?

How do we send commands to the sensors and read their values ?

This video shows how the system works with an example.

We measure the values of the water and read them on the computer.

Water Quality Management with SunSPOTs

December 17, 2008

I have been a project manager of a school project called “WaterWell” for the last five months. Together with 5 other master students, we have developed a water-analysis system with SunSPOTs. This video is prepared for the final presentation of the project.

You can check the project’s website here : http://www.tslab.ssvl.kth.se/csd/projects/0821006/

Want to learn about Sun SPOTs ?

September 29, 2008

During this term I’ll be working on a wireless solution for water quality management using Sun SPOTs. The primary objective of this project is to produce a feasible and practical wireless sensor network for monitoring water quality.

Although I am working more on the business aspects of the project, I have been spending a lot of time on Sun SPOTs. I have found a very useful and free course that’s given by Sun Microsystems on Sun Student Courses. For those of you who are interested in knowing more about Sun SPOTs, “Introduction to Sun SPOTs” course is a great start !

You can even get a certificate if you finish the course successfully.

Sun SPOT Presentations at KTH

April 25, 2008

We organized Sun SPOT presentations at KTH this week. First one was in main campus and the second one was in Kista campus, where all the IT students and companies are located. We got good responses from participants and we are happy to share our knowledge with the community.

Here you can watch a sample project from KTH Campus Ambassadors and Kenneth.

After the presentation some of the students asked about the presentation slides. Here you can re-check the slides. If you need more and deeper information please do not hesitate to contact with us.

Finally we got our Sun SPOTs and started to work on it. Sun SPOT (Sun Small Programmable Object Technology) is a wireless sensor network (WSN) mote (an electronic communication device meant to be the size of a particle of dust) developed by Sun Microsystems. The device is built upon the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. Unlike other available mote systems, the Sun SPOT is built on the Squawk virtual machine.

In addition, we created a facebook group for Sun SPOT. To see the page click here. You are all welcome.
